From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.
